April 27, 2011 – 2nd wedding anniversary: A cold and chilly morning it was. The continuous snowing last night had spread a white carpet all over. The tender rays of the sun kissed the mountains in the milieu. Various shades of saffron, vermilion and yellow blended perfectly with the black, brown and white of the mountains. This panorama – dramatic beyond compare; allured us with all their charm. Awake before the crack of the dawn, we gladly accepted the camaraderie offered by the snow-capped crests and began to trace our path over the freshly laid snowy rug!
We had been on foot for over a week now, but this bit of walking that we were doing was for sure the best of the lot. It was a different world altogether. Lofty peaks on either side. The ones in the rear seemed to be walking with us, ensuring we were safe in that unknown terrain. We climbed up a cliff and they then left us with another set of mountains which took care of us there on. The course of action continued, until these got us to the place where we were to celebrate our anniversary – a place that was 5360 m above the sea level… a place which happens to be at the foothills of the world’s tallest mountain…!
Anu (my wife) and I were keen on going to the Everest Base Camp. We had had it on our radar for quite some time now. We finally decided to make it in April 2011 to commemorate two years of our togetherness. 27 well-wishers joined in for the celebration. It had taken a year’s planning to make this happen.
